MP3/4 recommendations please?

Complete newbie looking for advice on a player for my son's 13th birthday. He has just started taking an interest in downloading music, and no longer approves of my tastes, so takes his tablet out in the car with us so he doesn't have to put up with the radio stations I choose!

A player with FM tuner would be good (we are in a poor area for DAB).

Auction ends tomorrow if I am going to buy. Read a few reviews and some say sound quality is not great, but others say this is down to the supplied earphones, and son has his own JVC ones we bought him at Christmas.

Any advice on whether this is a good one, or similar priced recommendations would be great.
