Hi Crabman,
I agree it's strange (and a bit pointless) to have the two of us covered as 'personal' and also have a vehicle covered. I think this arose because years and years ago we had vehicle cover and then one year they offered personal cover. We opted for it, and somehow it's been on the account ever since.
I did hear that they no longer offered personal cover to new customers (a few years ago), but don't know if that's changed now.
No, I can't say we've never claimed, but we haven't used them much. Probably only a handful of times in the 20 years of membership (it says 20 years on the membership renewal letter - I can't quite believe it!!!)
Hi Ronaldo,
There's nothing wrong with a local firm coming out. I admit I am daft enough to feel I prefer the certainty of an RAC van rather than some company I may never have heard of (totally irrational, I know!) - but the reason I was against a local company was because I read on here that these policies work in the way that you pay the local firm directly and then claim back from the breakdown cover provider. In that case, knowing me, I simply wouldn't use the service!!! I don't mind paying an annual membership fee, but faced with an unexpected bill because my car won't start and I'd be more likely to ask my Dad to look at it for me!0 -
If you buy AA cover online then sign up for it through Quidco. You get £20 back via Quidco. Then use code PUM1804 for 2,000 bonus Nectar points and also regular Nectar points on your membership spend. The man without a signature.0

Crabman, was it you who suggested using Tesco Clubcard vouchers? I tucked it away at the back of my mind, and just thought I'd look through my Clubcard deal booklet before I ring RAC and try to haggle a few quid off the £125 renewal.
I'm still in shock, but if I'm reading this correctly it looks like I can get the same level of cover as we currently have (costing £125) but using clubcard vouchers it will only cost £31.75!!!!! I am in shock!
Will have to read a bit more but this looks like an excellent deal - so thank you for mentioning it! I would never have thought of using my Clubcard vouchers!
Are there any catches, anything I'm missing? It looks like the same deal as we currently have. Thank you!0 -

Crabman, just wanted to say thanks again for the advice about Tesco Clubcard - I should have thought of this for myself (I had the clubcard deals brochure here, but hadn't bothered to read it!) - so thanks - you have just saved me almost £100 !:j
Thanks also to everyone else who took the time to reply - much appreciated!
Viking, what's Quidco? How does it work? I've had a very quick look at their website, but don't quite understand how it works and how I would get nectar points through Quidco. I'm already registered with nectar. Does it work in the same sort of way? Also, I see Tesco is on their list, would I still get my Tesco clubcard points if I buy through Quidco?0 -
Think of Quidco as an advertiser, and they get paid for each sale made when you click on their special links to companies. Well, whatever they get paid, they pass on to you
With the clubcard vouchers you have to post them off and you can't get any quidco for it unfortunately. But definitely check out Quidco if you're doing any online shopping etc. read the article too0 -
Thanks Crabman! :T0
