E:03/07 Win A 26" Panasonic LCD TV And Forbidden Planet DVD

Available on DVD in the UK for the first time this year, the 50th anniversary edition of Forbidden Planet remains one of the world’s most influential SF movies. Gene “Star Trek” Roddenberry noted in his biography that this flick was one of his inspirations, and we reckon that the smoky danger in the Lost jungle owes a thing or two to the id monster. Partly inspired by the Shakespearian tale The Tempest, this is the yarn that introduced the world to Robby the Robot. It’s surprising to watch this classic again and see how much good SF it contains, and how relevant the plot still feels. You may find it odd to see Leslie Nielsen outside his now-trademark comedy movies; but back then he played Commander John J Adams as a Captain Kirk-style hunk. Phwoar.

To celebrate the arrival of this edition of Forbidden Planet on our shores (available to buy on DVD from 18 June, RRP £16.99), we’ve teamed up with Warner Home Video to deliver a fantastic competition. For starters, we’ve got a copy of the 50th anniversary DVD to give away to one lucky entrant so they can watch it and complete their SF education. But that’s not all: the winner will need something decent to watch it on, so Warner Home Video are giving away a fantastic new 26-inch Panasonic flatscreen LCD television set! To enter, just answer the following simple question:

What is the name of the flying saucer that Commander Adams and his crew pilot?

Answer: United Planets Cruiser C-57D
