Where do I stand ?

I bought a folding table today for £10 bin plus £12 p&p. I paid immediately by PayPal.

It was then bought to my attention she wanted the table collected. Can't do this I live on the other side of the country. So I messages her saying I had paid postage.

Got a message back saying that the p&p had been an error, it should have been collect only, and the cheapest she could post it was £15. Did I want to carry on or withdraw my bid. I replied I would send her the £2.50 and carry on with the transaction.

I have now received a message saying she can't do anything until midweek , when she will check the postage, and she hopes it doesn't exceed the stated £15.

So where do I stand ?
What if she comes back with £20 p&p ?

I know I could withdraw my bid, but I need a table for our upcoming camping trip. But on the other hand I don't want to spend £s on one.

Pretty poor behaviour on the part of the seller tbh - a seller really shouldn't be asking for more money for postage than you had agreed on, not only that but she is leaving you in limbo until mid-week.

Did you get a bargain? if you feel that you got a good price then hang on and wait for the seller to send it to you. Don't give her anymore for postage though and don't let her ask you to organise the courier, that is her problem.

If you decide to buy a table somewhere else make sure you leave her the appropriate feedback!

    Thanks for reply.

What do I do if she messages me in the week saying the p&p is more ?
I have never come across this before and have no idea what to do ?

ETA I have not paid the extra £2.50 yet as she has not given me her email.

I wouldn't bother sending any extra, you may never get back any money not paid with the Ebay transaction.
Wait to see how much she quotes the postage at, if it's too much open a 'non performing seller' dispute and say you want at the price on the listing. You'll either get a full refund or seller will send it.

yes agree with the above - if you haven't sent any extra money then don't! Personally I would start looking at other tables now!

    Good news.

Just got a message saying they have looked at couriers not listed on eBay and can send for the £12.

Really relieved I don't have to open any cases. Just wished they had looked before messaging me.

    Thanks for all the replies.

(I wonder if they are on here, and read the thread ? )

    Just had another message.

'As you know, I wanted the item collected, and have no packing material. I will not be able to get any until Thursday at the earliest. I hope this is ok.'

    My reply

' As you know, I paid the postage you asked for immediately through PayPal. If the item has not been posted by the end of this week I will no other option than contacting eBay.'

It that the right reply ?
Can I contact eBay if it is not posted this week ? Or do I need to leave a longer amount of time ?

What are the estimated delivery dates on the listing? You cant really do much until those have come and gone with ebay.

Guess they will miss that then.
If you really want the table you will have to wait and see what happens. I would give it a week to turn up then open an INR.

Only other option is, you both agree to cancel before it is posted. Seller would have to refund you first, then send you a cancellation request.
  • If she wanted collection only then why did she put a postage cost down?

I would just open a case now and be done with it as I can't see this ending well.
