Help, tax credit

My partner is just about to go onto maternity leave, so when she has had junior (due august 16) I will be claiming tax credits based on a joint income for 2006/7 of £28000.
So as her income for 2007/8 will be much lower, £112 p/w maternity pay from mid august will they automatically allow for the lower income or will I have to inform them of a change of income after we get the initial award.
Any help would be appreciated.
