JSA and a student partner

Hello,

I was wondering if any knowledgeable folk knew what happens if someone puts in a 'joint claim' when one person is a student and in receipt of the full maintenance loan ( as of sept this year) and the other is unemployed?
I had a little search and seen figures of getting £5 a week??

Thanks for any info!

If you are entitled to Contribution-based JSA you will receive JSA Cont irrespective of whether your partner is a student. To assess you for Income-Based JSA the loan is taken into account in your assessment from September until the end of the academic year or up to the last benefit week in June, depending on which year of the course the partner is studying. There is a £10 per week disregard on the loan. Also, if the partner is receiving a Maintenance Grant that is fully taken into account for the same period.
