When I was out of work I took my import car off the road. Only just got it back on the road in the last couple of weeks. To start with I had to jump start it and it wouldn't hold a charge, so after a new battery she ran fine except I now have SRS light on the dash. Then yesterday when I stop and go to change from D4 into Park (going through N, R then P) it won't go. I have to turn the engine off to get it to disengage before it will go into Park and release my ignition key.
Any ideas? Its a Honda btw.

Too late now but it's best not to jump start modern cars; plays havoc with the electronics. Better to remove the battery and charge it. Maybe you have some damaged modules.0

Thanks, its not that modern a car (97). In the manual it does advise you can jumpstart it. I know Civic's have the SRS problem. More worried about the gears. You are best off asking on a Honda forum where there will be specialised knowledge.0

A change of fluid in the gearbox may help, but it is very very very very expensive.
Otherwise pay for a diagnosis (and they will likely suggest a change of fluid, which is very very very very expensive)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

SRS will be the airbag or a seat/belt sensor issue.
Regarding the box, Checked the oil level? Dry linkage?

Check the manual for any "learning" process they gearbox has to go through after having a dead battery. Some auto gearboxes take time to re-learn and speed up shifts, or there may be a way to force it to do so.
The SRS light - get a specialist garage to plug it in and clear it. If it's a real fault, it'll come back. If it's just that something that triggered the system to warn or a fault, then a reset may make it go away. Smetimes knocking a seat right back can knock the airbag sensor, or letting the battery die could do this too.
My dad had been driving his volvo for 6 years with the SRS light on. Cleared the code, and it went away for good.0
