How do you get a design made and protected?

I've come up with a beauty product that I have been researching for some time now and I believe it would sell well. The cost to a customer would be from 99p to £3 depending on the actual cost of getting it made and packaging etc.
Ideally it would be in the JML section of Boots
I won't go into exact detail but could anyone point me in the direction of a web page that gives advice on getting a design made and how to protect your idea? And of course who to approach with your idea.
Thanks

Thanks

If you want it to be represented by JML, why not talk to JML about them developing the product under license? That way it'll end up in all their outlets with a heavy push until world + dog are selling cheap knock-offs0
