Worktop damage.

Can anyone please advise how my friend could repair damage done to her blue formica worktop (not very old) She was cleaning her oven shelves with caustic oven cleaner and washing it off (carefully she thought) in the sink. When she looked there were several marks on the surrounding worktop and the shine etc is gone. Is there any way of treating it to bring it back? Thanks in advance, she's really upset, it's not even a year old yet.

    Doh!

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. May be able to claim through house insurance if your friend has accidental damage cover
    2. Failing that, assuming worktop normally has a shiny gloss finish try glass polish - I've never used it on a kitchem worktop but have found it good for removing scratches from all kinds of things

    Good luck!

We had a bit of trouble with some gloss black, it had a very dull patch. A tempory fix was to rub some cooking oil into it.
Not so much that you end up with a greasey worktop though.

We damaged our brand new worktop when it was only a mth old. We didn't realise that the edging hadn't been trimmed off and pulled the washer out sideways and it pulled the edging off making the bottom edge look jagged - you could see the plywood underneath. What was really annoying was that we'd thrown the remaining edging not thinking we might need it! We went to B&Q for some paint and by surprise noticed they do worktop repair kits, they don't cost too much around £8 (I think they do all colours - our worktop is marble effect). If you look really closely you can tell but its a decent enough job.
I wished the buck stopped here as I could use a few!
