Downloads for MP3?

Having just bought an MP3, and being totally useless when it comes to things like this, can anyone recommend any websites where I can download books, comedy etc, preferably for free? I'm googling for stuff but I'm totally overwhelmed! Everything I seem to be finding seems to be for ipods/itunes. Thanks.

Am assuming you are asking about talking books.

As to getting them free, you will be very lucky to find any. Its not like music where there thousands of sites to get music from (free ones are likely to be illegal of course).

    Could try https://www.audible.co.uk or https://www.talkingbooks.co.uk
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

Books are good, but you seem to be able to get uni notes, etc available for downloads, but only for ipods, and I wondered if there were similar things for MP3s. Audible's not compatible with my MP3 for some reason. I was thinking along the lines of podcasts for MP3.

Thanks Stevo, I'm on the BBC's site right now trying to work out how to get a podcast onto my MP3, seems extremely complicated to be honest, can I put open a podcast and then somehow save it onto the MP3 - I'm sorry, I am totally stupid when it comes to stuff like this!

No, no, no, you are not stupid. You're on a learning curve the same as anyone else doing something for the first time. I'm watching your post because I too don't know how it is achieved. Everyday, someone somewhere contributes information that one of us learns from. In time YOU will be the one providing that information. I'd suggest that if you don't already, you register with other forum sites where on a daily visit you will read something or other to your advantage.Having retired early, I learn so much on here. Yesterday for instance I learnt how to format a SD memory card and why it should be done instead of deleting images preferably.

oh thanks, Islandman, for your encouraging words! I'm just not terribly technologically minded, but want to try and put things onto my MP3 myself instead of having to ask my partner! Although at the moment I've failed and will wait until he comes home to try and help me! Once I know how to do it I'll be fine, I'm just not sure of the software I have or need, and you're right in that it's a learning curve for me, and I hope both you and I can learn how to download in time!

If all you want is to copy some of your CD's to your MP3 player, then I'm sure I can help. After my son showed me how, I wrote the instructions down on Word, so I could forward them to you.
There you are, I've sent them to you via a PM, let me know if they are usefull.

You need podcasting software. I've tried iPodder before. There's an explanation here - http://www.visitscotland.com/sitewide/edinburghpodcast
<although it's related to the Edinburgh podcast, the methods are still the same> You can subscribe to a feed <for example, a BBC programme as a podcast> and it means that whenever you're on the internet, it will automatically update your chosen podcasts.
  • Assuming you haven't discovered how to do it already, this is how to do it on the BBC website -

1- From Stevo25's link, click on "Available Programmes"
2- Click on the Station you want (eg Radio 1)
3- Scroll down and click on "+Podcast" for the show you want (eg Best of Moyles)
4- Scroll down to where it says current episode, right click the link and "save target as" to your chosen location on your PC.
5- Once you have your MP3 player plugged in, it'll appear as a removable drive in "My Computer." Copy and paste, or drag and drop the podcast file over to you MP3 player.

install itunes and learn how to use the itunes store (there exist some good tutorials) then subscribe to podcasts that will download as and when they become avaliable.
