Video on Android

I took a couple of video clips on my Android smartphone, then went to send them to someone via Whatsapp. I used Whatsapp as it's supposedly better for sending pics/videos than the standard texting system.

However, with both I got a message saying they couldn't be sent as the files were bigger than 16mb. One video is 1minute long, the other is 3 minutes. I've now checked the resolution setting and it's "Full HD" with other options of HD 720p, VGA, and MMS..

Am I right in thinking that this is a resolution issue? And if so, what optional setting should I use without the quality suffering too much?

Quality will need to suffer, video files are decidedly large inherently! However MMS will be the lowest option, and have a length limit, so save it as a last resort and do a test with VGA (640x480) which is similar to regular (non-HD) TV. Many older/cheaper devices will find it easier to play than HD anyway, so they'll enjoy a smoother experience at tv quality (simplifying massively here, but it'll do!)

Not resolution strictly, but filesize. Reducing the resolution will reduce the file size too, but also the quality. Send the files a different way. Can you use bluetooth? Upload to YouTube and send the other person the link (can be set to private).
