hi i was wondering if anyone could help.
im 22 and me and my husband were receiving income based job seekers allowance, i decided to op for the self-employment and i went on to the new enterprise allowance, i was referred to the princes trust and i got a £4000 loan from them. i am now taking part in some private courses to expand my business. before i went onto NEA i asked my advisor how would this affect my joint JSA claim and i was told we would be better off, she explained that our joint claim would change to a single claim for my husband and he would carry on signing on and i would get NEA for 26 week. but 4 weeks after signing off they stopped my husbands claim due to me being self employed. i still have not register for self employment and i am not earning much yet as i have just started and i am attending my training courses and trying to get my business running. is there anyway i could claim working tax credits? any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

If not children and not disabled, you need to be 25 to claim WTC.0

i think me having to be over 25 is silly as it makes no difference how old you are, if i was over 25 my situation would be the same yet i would get help. is there anything else i can claim until my husband gets a job?0

Just picking up on something you said in your first post op.....you say you haven't registered as self-employed as yet. Not too certain, but shouldn't you do that sooner than later otherwise liable to possible £100 fine.
Not sure if this only applies once you actually starting trading, however what happens if the DWP has your status as self-employed? May be worth checking if you haven't already.0 -

I agree its wrong under 25's can't claim WTC but its currently the rules, set to change under UC, but won't help you.
You can claim other low income benefits like housing and council tax if in your own place (ie not living with parents)0
