Apply for cashback card now, or after moving?

Hi,

Recently my 1% cashback credit card was taken over by Barclaycard and the cashback feature was discontinued. So, I should look into switching cards at some point. I spend about £5k a year on this card, so we're only talking about around £50, but still.

Thing is, we've bought our first home and are due to move into it in August. If I wait until August then I'll have to put 0 years at current address on the application. If I do the application now I'll have to say I live in rented rather than owned property, but I can at least demonstrate 4 years of residency and matching electoral roll.

So should I apply after moving and after I know the electoral roll has been updated, or should I apply now?

Thanks!

Throw in a few apps now as address stability can play a big part in the credit scoring process.

It might be best to wait until you have some big purchases lined up, as many have intro offers where you can get higher cashback in the first few months

Have you completed on your new home? Personally I wouldn't want to apply forvanything in until your mortgage funds are released and keys in hand.

    Not worth the risk.

If you've been given an offer of mortgage (unconditional) then there's no risk applying for a credit card or two, especially if you've exchanged :o

    Thanks for the advice, all.

The 5% on amex was too tempting what with some furniture purchases coming up (admittedly it's capped at £2k so that's only going to be £100 though). I applied for one of those and it's arrived already.
