Stretching the carpet wont weaken it, but they can only do it if it has more to give, it should already be stretched.

The edges do tend to fray where they are cut but it should be hidden by the gripper rod when stretched over. If this is possible then it is an easy repair, if it still shows then I would expct a new carpet.

Who was the carpet fitted by?
Is it a jute backed carpet?
Sometimes the latex backing does not fix correctly to the carpet which would be a fault.

It would be best if you were able to say what kind of backing the carpet has. Better quality carpets tend to have jute or hessian & the cheaper end of the market have felt.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

not quite true. you can have good quality felt (the better felt tends to bee blue and quite chunky) as well as very poor quality jute (true hessian is usually high quality though).

jayjayy can you confirm weather the carpet is fraying (indivudual bits of pile comming away) or delaminating (entire pile layer sepperating from the secondary backing).

If its the second it almost deffenatly is faulty and needs replacing, if its the first (depending on serverity can bee repaired). Could you please post photos of the affected area? it will help massivly.
