Another question. I didn't use up all my personal allowance in the 3 months that I worked. Does the remainder of this allowance get taken into account when calculating any tax refund owed on my redundancy payment?

Yes- I did mention that on my previous post.

  • Hi,

Sorry to jump on the back of your post but could I ask how long after receiving your p45 did you receive your redundancy payment?

I have recently been made redundant for the first time and i am a bit clueless as to what happens.

I received my p45 today in the post.

    Thanks

I actually got my P45 before I'd even left, which was a bit of a surprise! I got my redundancy payment on the date after I left which would have been my payday if I hadn't left, if you see what I mean!

I am in the same situation as the original poster and telephoned HMRC today who told me not to complete a P50, they will send me an OCA91 form (whatever that is, not much on tinterweb). I'm to complete this and return it, if they agree I have overpaid tax when I received redundancy payment they will refund me. They said up to 2 weeks to receive the form and up to 7 weeks to assess my claim once they have received the form back from me.
