Family Car with decent boot for dog?

Currently have a Ford Focus estate - the estate primarily because the dog can go in the back (boot). We are expecting a baby. No problem there you think but we often go out with parents - two adults and a baby car seat don't really fit in the back.
I've been looking in passing at people carriers but these all seem to have small boots. Whilst the Focus boot is bigger than needed for the dog, the people carriers boots seem too small.
I'd like a sliding rear door. Ideally.
I think the Grand C Max possibly fits the bill but we'd only have a budget of £6-7k and I think that's pushing it. I prefer Ford's but unless we go for a Transit minibus I don't think they do anything within budget.
Any thoughts or ideas welcome. 'Get rid of the dog' is not a welcome one!!

If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused

You'd have to forego the sliding doors, but a Ford Galaxy would be ideal for your requirements. 3 full size middle row seats and enough boot space for the dog and baby related luggage!0

Cars which are van like are worth a look. Citroen Berlingo, Skoda Roomster etc.0

Mondeo estate?
Is a C-Max wider than a standard focus? Didnt think it was.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I have a Kia Sportage (older version 2007) and have a big dog who has loads of room in the boot, plus 3 seats in the back..0

I found the best in class for three rear passengers was the Mk1 Citroen Picasso. Unbelievable boot space even with rear seats at rear most position. Should get a very decent diesel for your money. Petrol is a bit thirsty but mine (the old 2.0 diesel) was frugal and quite powerful. The newer 1.6 diesel is supposedly more powerful. Mine was new and I had it some 6 years with hardly any faults, just an indicator stalk! Great car to drive too.0
