Actually, from the manual "powermax is a combination boiler which heats the contents of a built in thermal store".

So above replies do not apply to Powermax. Off is off, it it will not heat the thermal store so there will be no hot water once the thermal store is exhausted.

It isn't really a Combi boiler then in the usual sense; it is an ordinary boiler heating a thermal store.

Might be along for the ride too on this thread! I have managed to get constant hot water, but the heating part is a nightmare. I've lived in quite a few properties and it's never been a problem. I'm always the one knowing how the boiler works.

I have managed to get the heating on all the time and leave the thermostat down on something like 6 so it it doesn't kick in, and it comes on when I turn it up. I suppose it'll have to stay like that cos, like you, the manual just confused me further. Must frustrating.

Unlike me to be defeated by such things, but this one has me stumped. Will look up model, etc and hijack a bit in case someone can help me too!

    Good luck, OP!

Are you sure it's not just an old timer that is being used from when there was an immersion heater at the property?
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.
