I can't really see how a USB dongle can be easier to position than something that doesn't need any cables as the mifis can run on battery power if needed otherwise they only need mains. I find the mifi's much better to use as they can be in an entirely different part of the house or building and still work absolutely fine, all you need to do is find where reception is best and ideally power is nearby and you can leave it there.

A wee bit of research would be a heck of a lot cheaper then a mifi unit!

And a dongle plus a 5m extension cable is a lot easier to position correctly than a mifi unit.

You can get a MiFi unit for under £20 if you know what you are doing.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but as is so often the case on forums, there are people commenting on this thread who've never actually been in the position of the OP. I don't know whether the OP's caravan is a static or a tourer, mine is a tourer, and I regularly put my dongle in a place/position where a mifi unit simply wouldn't fit!

One of the attractions of caravanning, static and touring, is that many sites are in the countryside, even in the middle of nowhere, and if you know anything about mobile phones/internet, you'll know that there's a real problem getting a decent signal in many areas outwith the main conurbations. Within the past 3 weeks, I was on a popular touring site on the outskirts of a town just 18 miles from the oil capital of Europe, and VF's and O2's mobile signal was rubbish and '3's was just marginally better.

Calm down my friend. I can't imagine where you could put a USB modem where a MiFi would fit and I have both. Don't forget that you can also use a MiFi attached to a USB cable. So you have the best of both worlds. I would always get a MiFi in the place of a USB modem for that reason.

What if I wanted to connect my iPad to the TV? Can I use a standard HDMI cable?
My iPad can't connect to my fridge or my kettle either, I don't see the problem.

You still haven't said what all these extra accessories you need to buy with an iPad are. Or explained how both my iPads have functioned perfectly well without them...
