saving money on glasses

Just a post if anyone can give advice?
I wear varifocal glasses and have been buying them from internet companies since I turned in all my credit cards:rotfl:
I am going for an eye test on Monday and have the most funky frames bought on offer from a company called Lensway, they are an unusual shape though, the cat eye look, and a friend has said varifocals may not be possible with that shape (although Lensway had advertised them as varifocal friendly).
Obviously in mean money saving mode I don't want to pay more than I have to- Specsavers have said they will reglaze the glasses but need to see them- so here is my question (sorry am rambling now)....
I recall an optician friend of mine saying an alternative to varifocals is to have each eye with a single prescription lens, one for long distance and other for close up reading, He said the eyes actually compensate each other and that it works. Has anyone else heard of this? I was hoping to go armed with that as an alternative that's all.
many thanks

My contact lenses are like this. never heard of them being in glasses though - its strange at first but I have had no problem with them at all0

My contact lenses are also like this, no problem at all either(apart from remembering to put them in the correct eye) If glasses can do this too, it'll be fine.
Not sure this is the right place to post, but still, interesting nevertheless! Maybe try the health thread for more answers?0 -
As a spectacle wearer I would have thought it would be a recipe for an instant headache plus you have limited your field of vision at each distance. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thanks everyone- Eliza I just could not find a suitable thread to post on, I[d tried glasses, didn't think of health, a faux pas perhaps!
#It may be that this only works with contact lenses, I could not remember the entire conversation as it was some time ago, I'll ask them on Monday.now debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings0 -
It almost certainly wouldn't work as well in spectacles as it does with contact lenses. The reason being that in spectacle lenses, you get a significant difference in image magnification, which wouldn't apply in contact lenses for optical reasons.
Hope that makes sense.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

If you use a computer alot at work, say 85% of the time your company might have eye schemes in place,
The large multi national i work for, will refund the eye test, plus go halfs in on glasses when you give them the recipt
Im due again in 6 months - it means i can have nice glasses, without breaking the bank (cheers work!)0
