RAC Renewal

I know it is standard practice that RAC and the like try it on with hiking the renewal and you have to go through the hassle of phoniong up and asking for it to be reduced - but how can they justify a 47% price increase which even after complaining they have only reduced to 22%?

By saying it increases the profit margins of the asset management firm who own it.

Did you use them in the last 12 months?

    If yes, that's great.

If not, why not have no cover? Then if you did need recovering from the roadside then you'd pay a bit more than 1 years price I would have thought.
I haven't had breakdown cover for years. But then I always give my car a good service at the right times and make sure it's kept in good shape.

You never know when a car is going to break down, even if you have it regularly serviced.

The last 4 times I had to call the breakdown company were:
    1. Bolt fell off end of crankshaft.
    2. Electrics shorted out.
    3. Clutch slave cylinder suddenly failed.
    4. Pipe joint fractured, leaking diesel on the road.
(That's two different cars, over several years)

None of those are service items.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Why not do as I do and join someone like Topcashback or Quidco and swap from the AA to the RAC annually and in so doing through Topcashback you could significantly reduce the premiums. Example I joined the AA this year for £42 but as a new customer I cot £30 cashback so in effect I paid £12.
The year before I did the reverse for around £14.
