I will be buying an extra loaf of bread, extra ham and extra salad.
Then crisps or pretzels, 2 different types of fruit and a cereal bar type thing.
This will be for 5 days a week.
Other options could be wraps instead of sandwiches and different types of fruit, maybe a yogurt too.
It's for myself, my 13 year old son (he eats a LOT) and my 9 year old osn who eats more than all of us put together
Pittas could be good, the value ones are really cheap. You could do homemade cereal bar/flapjack type things with value oats and dried fruit. Bananas are probably the most cost effective fruit. If you're doing yoghurt, consider buying a big pot of natural yoghurt and dishing it out into a small tub with some fruit/seeds mixed in.October Grocery Challenge: £20.65/£150
September Grocery Challenge: I lost track/£200
August Grocery Challenge: £92.11/£1000 -
Due to a very hectic couple of weeks, I have completely lost track of August
but I am also pretty confident I was still on target.
However, I have decided to change my "start" dates if ok to a date that suits us better. We got our money/pay day etc. on Friday so I would like to start the month from then, and run until the next pay day which is 4 weeks from tomorrow. (23rd September I believe).
So, £250 again for the month please.
Spends allready: £29.86 in Mr T Friday (quite a few YS items - Yay!) and £18.04 in local shop this morning, needed milk, bread, toilet roll, cheese, also got diet coke BOGOF and a couple of treats to have when my mother in law and friends come to lunch today.
I am pretty well stocked to start the month, will need more milk, a bit of fruit, some chicken breast and some tortilla wraps Tuesday, but other than that should be good for the week.Mum of 2 monkey. 4 yrs and 2 yrs :j
Starting again...
July GC £65/£2000 -
OK, so now we have the new fridge freezer I am adjusting our shopping style - finally!
I've done an online shop with ASDA which includes everything we need for the month bar milk, lettuce, toms, cucumber, wraps and makro meat. I also included a couple of extras compared to normal as we need a lot more variety in our meals so I included some pesto and other bits :-) in total it came to £60 (excluding a couple of non standard/ grocery treats!)
That leaves £40 which will be divided as follows:
Dog food and treats - £13
Money towards makro shop - £20
Top ups (milk, 2x wraps, fresh veggies) - £7************************************
Daughter born 26/03/14
Son born 13/02/210 -
I hope you will see more of me in this thread......
I haven't done very well this year with meal planning so hopefully with a new month approaching and food cupboards that are somewhat more organised, hopefully I can redeem myself.
I watched yesterday/today the channel 4 mrs moneypenny food episode that was on tv a few weeks ago - the one where the family had £900 odd of food stockpiled in their cupboards. That got me thinking.... how much is in mine? (I don't have the patience to add everything up but my cupboards are well stocked so I imagine there is quite a few quid squirreled away!)
I was also interested to see mention of food apps where you can log what you have although a quick google search/peruse of them didn't excite me too much although if anyone uses a particular app then would be interested to know.0 -
I'm in again - £300 for the month again, which, bearing in mind how much I've spent already (my month started on the 20th) may be a struggle. I have my Mum staying with us at the moment for a few weeks and I seem to have feeder tendencies it would appear. I don't know why but it seems I equate good food with proving I'm doing ok and we eat constantly. I'm going to be as big as a house when she goes back if I don't rein back. Puddings for lunch and tea, plus supper isn't helping either the waistline or budget!!!I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

Great idea about the pittas, thanks. I know he likes them.
I have tried baking flapjacks on multiple occasions, but for some bizarre reason they just don't turn out very wellBut can try again, and if it still doesnt turn out well then i can use the dried fruit as a snack in the lunches as he loves dried fruit.
Hadn't thought of the yogurt idea, great one! Thanks again DK, it's really appreciated.0 -
Just realized that i still haven't said what my GC budget will be.
I am going to say £340 for the month (can i please do monthly for September). Sorry to keep changing from weekly to monthly, but i think this will be the easiest way from now on.0 -

You can also put some cereal in for the yoghurt to make a homemade version of those crunch cornersOctober Grocery Challenge: £20.65/£150
