    Two more NSD to report.

Been busy last couple of days trying to sort out yet more stuff from spare room. Still a lot to do but its coming slowly.

Meals plans have gone a bit off course this week but have used a few items up that have been in for a while.
    MARCH £62.38/250
  • Another NSD here today. Received a voucher from mr t for £15 off £50 so that equates to 30% discount (minus the delivery charge) but still better than hubby's 10% staff discount at mr s so I need to sit down and make a list of non perishables for next month, especially ones cheaper than mr s too to grab a few bargains. As the bulk of our shopping is Aldi these days this is going to be an interesting challenge. Once upon a time I'd have just frittered the money away on treats rather than using it wisely and I've got the GC to thank for that :) As far as our budget goes, so far we've done 3 out of our 4 weekly shops with a little over £175 of our budget left so I'm hoping we might do it, especially after the disastrous first GC lol x

  • Got back from holiday on Sunday after 12 days away. Obviously my cupboards were very bare when I go back, so I did have a rather large re-stock on Monday. Managed to get away with only spending £26 of my £60 budget for the month, which was really good considering it included a lot of meat, fish, cheese and veggies.

Before I went away I froze a large collection of veggies so I could make a pork casserole when I came back, but unfortunately I got food poisoning from some under-cooked pork while I was away! I am not sure when I'll feel like eating pork again, but I hope it's soon, as it's taking up my whole freezer drawer!
  • I have been amazed lately how little groceries I have been buying! I have gone beyond the NSDs to "forgetting to shop"!!! All I spent in August on food was £140.10 for the whole month. So far this month £130.90 which included a takeaway with a guest staying for 3 nights. The takeaway was £22.10-not the sort of money I normally spend but the meal lasted us for 2 days with the leftovers! I've not included household stuff and I did top up with cleaning items this weeks and some tins of sweets for Xmas(not included)but I am very pleased with my shopping in general-it has come down so much! I have been freezing the fruit from our trees and I think one of my freezers will just be full of apples and plums! I am talking of an 11 cubic ft chest freezer(Ithink)not a little one!
Next door neighbour gave me a freezer-an upright one almost as large so I put all my purchased food in that and my fruit in the chest freezer. I don't know what I would have done without it(well it would all have gone to waste)so we have been giving away bags of apples as well. I finished stripping the plum tree and basically all of the cucumbers and tomatoes are probably finished-tho I am hoping some of the toms still ripen as there are a lot of green ones. I made 18 jars of plum jam so I have been busy busy.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

Yesterdays shop came to £15.71 which makes totals - wk £18.07/£35 (food 18.07, other 0.00) month 100.86/140

Advise needed pls Where does everyone store their potatoes? I brought a big bag as it is more economical but will only be using them for one meal this week, where is best to leave them so they keep (and how long should they be ok for)? Thanks

Hi - sorry been busy and just got to check last few days so late in replying.

I don't have much store room but empty my 2.5kgs into an old hessian shopping bag which I keep folded closed on the floor (air, cold and dark) under the bottom shelf. Seem to keep ok for a couple of weeks

This week so far spent £3.49 on bicarb of soda and Qu*rn mince as am going to try the trick of mixing 50/50 with beef mince I saw earlier :T and I have updated signature

Other 2 days were NSD :j
Glad you all doing well - only 12 days to go eh !

Oh dear I have to retract my earlier statement of not going over budget this week. I've just noticed that ALDI's baby event starts tomorrow and I want to pick up 2 boxes of nappies so that's £15 gone already.
