What are my chances of getting backdated housing benefit?

I know there might not be a black and white answer but wonder if there's a chance. Basically I made a rapid reclaim for JSA on 2 July then signed off for a couple of days on 8 July to take a job that ended up not working out so reclaimed JSA again. Anyway I went to the council to tell them about the 2 days work because I assumed HB was connected to the rapid reclaim but obviously it isn't so I had to do a new claim, now they are asking reason for backdating I have said it wasn't clear it was not linked to the JSA rapid reclaim. I feel pretty stupid.
Just to clarify I went to the council on 11 July to query and filled in new claim but now had form asking why I want it backdated.

I don't thnk they backdate unless its their error, and even then it can be a struggle. I know my council count your application from the Monday of the week you submit your claim ( if entitled from that date)
I wouldn't think not knowing it wasn't linked to jsa would be a reason to backdateIts all mind over matter. I don't mind and you don't matter:rotfl:0 -
It's quite likely that the wage from two days work would have been low enough for you to have continued claiming HB but on the basis of low income rather than JSA.
As in HB(JSA related)---->HB(p/t wage)---->HB(JSA related). That's really what you should have done.
You might do better trying to get them to accept it as a continuous claim with a change of circs/income. Show them your pay slip.0 -
Thanks for the answers the job was meant to be full time so I signed off completely it just happened that it only lasted 2 days. I've filled in the form they sent, know all I can do now is wait. Just annoyed at myself I knew HB is administered by the local council so why did I think just ticking a few boxes on directgov website would get it magically restarted

Confused why no HB - is the gap in your claim less than a month?
And prior to starting work were you continuously in receipt of JSA for 26 weeks with no break? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
