Car Insurance

Hi All,
I had a car insurance with Churchill. Policy started in Feb 2013. I was paying monthly. Cover for a calendar year.
Beginning of July I had to sell my car. I cancelled this policy.
I have received a letter from Churchill asking me to pay the outstanding amount for cancellation and remaining period - £284.
I made 1 claim on that policy.
When I cancelled it they asked me to send my policy back to them therefore I can't check it.
Do I have to pay it even if I sold my car?
Regards
Peter

It might be because you had to make a claim, they need to regain some costs.
I wanted to move my insurance renewal date as it falls on the same date as my tax, and as I'd made a claim I couldn't cancel my current policy without paying the outstanding balance. I know this because I queried it when contacting my insurers when I was thinking of selling my car.0 -

You took out a year's policy and claimed, so the simple fact is they are right you owe them.
You buy 12 months cover with finance when you pay monthly.0 -
In the event of a claim, the whole policy amount is payable as opposed to a pro-rata calculation.Be happy...;)0

We will not refund any premium if you have made a claim or if one
has been made against you during the period of cover. Please return
the certificate of motor insurance0
