Day out with mum

Hi
I want to have a nice day out with my mum to spend some time together just us and I thought I'd ask for some ideas. We often go out for meals so that in itself isn't 'special' enough but any special location suggestions would be good. Also I'm pregnant and she doesn't know yet so I probably can't do a spa or anything with alcohol as a focus. I know she'd like to see more of London and as she's only 59 she's mobile but doesn't like long treks. We want to do this fairly soon so nothing that needs booking weeks in advance. I did think about going up the Shard but she doesn't like heights. I also thought about an afternoon tea river cruse but she gets motion sickness. So does anyone have any ideas?

Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

being pregnant does not stop you going to a spa - or even a beauty salon for treatments - just tell them - only prob I had was hairspray made me ill but that was in the day of big hair in the 80sI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Can she not take sickness tablets? Is there a reason she doesn't,know you're pregnant? As a mother and grandmother any trip where my daughter told me she was pregnant would be special :TThe most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0

From other posts the OP is only 7 weeks pregnant. We didn't tell anybody, mums included, until we'd had the first scan.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

You can go to spas while pregnant - you just need to avoid steam/sauna rooms and hot jacuzzis.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I did the London eye combined with a river tour and really enjoyed it, we booked them together at a discounted price on last minute.com
Or you could go to borough market, then walk to the Tate modern & then along the river past the street performers that's a nice walk.
Or see a west end show?
Or afternoon tea somewhere else?0 -
Each to their own and while everyone else had to wait 12 weeks I would have been gutted if my daughter had made me wait that long :rotfl:
I also think that if OP went to a spa and avoided sauna, hot jacuzzi, alcohol or any of her usual indulgences then mother might guess? The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -
Afternoon tea at The Ritz or Claridges in London was always our favourite. (Edit - but they didn't used to let you in wearing jeans)
We also liked to go to a local garden centre for lunch and buy each other a plant. Oh and to Wisley (not sure about spelling) the research gardens.
If you have a local RSPB sanctuary, that can be nice. They rent you binoculars and you take a stroll from hide to hide in beautiful countryside and stop for a picnic. I'm not a bird watcher but I enjoyed that.
Is there a local fete or County show on? Great innocent fun. You come away feeling the real Britain is surviving under the surface.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.

I found out I was expecting at just 3 weeks and told my mum about two hours later! Had anything had gone wrong, she would have been the one I wanted with me so it was important to me that she knew right from the start.
OP, how about a trip to Harrods, with afternoon tea?0 -

I refused to believe I was pregnant until I'd actually seen baby on screen! We only ever told immediate family. Mine is all of 4 people, DH's is more like 20. I didn't want everybody going OTT over it (first grandchild on both sides etc). Had I miscarried I wouldn't have wanted everybody involved. Mum was thousands of miles away anyway so couldn't have "done anything".Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I really want to take my mum on a day out in London, to the V+A museum (surely the most girly of all the museums!) and then for afternoon tea somewhere nice. Maybe a show in the evening.0
