Hi,

Went to the shop earlier and it appears the power steering is not working on my focus (estate 1.6 Petrol 53 Reg).

Looked around online and can see the only known issue is with 2008 models so not mine.

It's not exactly easy to drive at the moment!, so can anyone advise me what to look for and how much it might cost.

Cheers.

When did you check the fluid last?

    Belt snapped?

It doesnt normally just stop working, Groans from the pump and a trail of fluid usually give the game away it needs attention.

The mk1 focus always had a fairly high ps pump failure rate and my rack went at under a year old ! but as forgotmyname said a few things to be checked. Unlikely the belt as you would have no alternator or water pump either.

    Hi,

Being morning again I have swapped the cars on the drive to have a look.

Fluid looks ok (although I note the coolant one seems to be just under the minimum)

So to the belt. Yes the belt has snapped! Forgive me for not noticing other things but like I said it just occured last night as I got to the local co-op!

So what does this mean? I mean alternator was mentioned so I assume the battery is not going to charge, also said water pump but the washers do work still.

And more important how much is this likely to cost.

    Thanks people and cheers again!

    OMG!

Just get a new belt fitted, If there's nothing seized up that will solve your problem.
Your washers will eventually stop when your battery goes flat:rotfl:
    Just a hint:
if you dont want a "toasted" engine get the belt changed before you run it Water pump= cooling system

Ahh that makes more sense. Just me being a bit slow. it is early for a sat! Best use somewhere very local in this heat then.

Yeah was not considering using it until I found out the possible consequences.

    Cheers again.
