Advice please: tour operator no longer recommending my booked and paid for hotel

Hi I would really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

I am due to go on holiday to turkey in 10 days. This morning I had a call from the tour operator to say that due to complaints they were no longer recommending the hotel I have booked. 2 different members of staff (including a manager) told me although the hotel was still available and they were not withdrawing it, they did not think my family should stay there, as there had been a number of assaults

The company is part of the freedom travel group so is atol / abta registered. I booked as a package but they actually built the holday as separate flights, accomodation, transfers (I was not aware of this until the tickets arrived this week)

Anyway, although I booked a 4 star all inclusive i am being offered a 3 star with terrible reviews and was advised that prices have gone up so if I want a four star equivalent I will have to pay over £650 extra.

Surely if the recommendation by them is not to stay in the accomodation they have a duty to offer accomodation at the same or higher standard for no extra cost.

I feel like they have waited until the last minute and are now trying to either force me to spend considerably more or take a sub standard alternative in a hotel they cannot fill for the same price.

Incidentally this affects my parents booking too so they are actuallly asking for £1300 extra for a family of 5.

Please help

Have you had a look on tripadvisor at the reviews of the hotel, you originally booked?

That's what I was going to say. Look on Trip Advisor for both hotels and see what they say.

This sounds a bit dodgy to me.

Sounds like they may be over booked and looking for excuse to move you.

If it is a package and they recommend you move, they pay the extra. If it is not, check your ATOL Certificate and see whether it says Package or as I fear Flight Plus in which case you are in a much weaker position as you actually have no contract with the agent at all. As others have said, check what comments you can about the hotel, if no one is complaining, then refuse to move
