Depends if you already have a job i guess.

If the salary was negotiable - then negotiate. Always worth asking, they can only say no. And they might.

We are already taking a cut on his current wage if we accept this new job but it allows him to be closer to home and stuff. its a big step

Of course money isn't the only thing.
Depends on what package is being offered, ie. other benefits from the company and also the benfits that would happen with the job being closer to home.

Some people are cash rich and time poor, depends on priorities I guess.

Is the figure of £300 and £330 net or gross?

To get £330 net the increase you are asking for IMO out of order.

Maybe see if there is a way of upping the money .negotiate a bonus.
Does the new boss know about the reduction in wages from previous job ?
    .
    .
Ask for £60.00..(then settle for 30.00)
    .
    ....Spend £30.00 less every week

If it were me I would probably be honest .If the boss and me couldn't find some kind of solution ,then it probably shows we are not gonna work to well together..Most problem solving is about compromise ..I would see this as the companies first test.

Are you serious??? out of order?

    Salary is ALWAYS negotiable.

If you don't ask, you don't get. A job offer is not going to be withdrawn because you had the wherewithal to ask for more money.

    Go for it.

Unless the job advert stated salary negotiable why apply knowing that the offered salary of £300 was too low?

I would take the job and tighten my belt.

    £30 on £300 is 10% - that's a hefty amount to ask for.

It also depends what the job is - if it's a small business they may not be able to give you more, but if it's a multinational it may be worth trying.
