credit card confusion

Hi!
I have a cap one credit card, this month is the first time I used it and spent £43.90. It said the payment due date was today, so, even though I set up a DD for the full amount I paid off the balance in full with my debit card. Should I have done that, or is the payment supposed to come out next month?
I'm confused!!!

    It depends on whether the statement said the DD was set up or not. You may have paid twice, or just the once.

    Or not at all, if you only actually paid today.

    To answer this we need to know the following:

    1. When did you spend the £43.00?
    2. When did the statement come?
    3. Which date did it give as a final payment date?

    Assuming that the statement arrived after you made the payment (and included the £43.00 on it), you should have paid the £43 (or at least the minimum payment given) before the due date.

    It is just possible that you spent the money just too late for it to appear on the first statement (which would then be a zero statement).
  • I spent the £43.90 within the last two weeks. I have looked at my last statement (24 may - 23 jun) - didn't use the card. so i assume the payment due date (19/7) was for the 24 may to the 23 june!?
    If I'm correct, the balance is paid for a month in arrears???
    So the £43 I just paid, should have been debited next month?
  • ok silly me! today was the payment day for the previous billing month :(

    Mine works like this:

    10th of the month (or thereabouts) -> statement comes out.
    1st of the following month (or thereabouts) -> direct debit payment.
    4th of the following month -> payment deadline.

    Eg:

    10th July -> statement.
    1st August -> pay 10th July statement.
    4th August -> deadline for paying 10th July statement.

    Simples :)
