Even so, the onus of proof is on the employer. At £1000000 the case is so easy it is not helpful. Where it gets difficult is the part time cleaner overpaid £10/month over 3 years - allegedly. If your monthly pay was £1000 every month you for sure aren't entitled to £1,000,000 if get that in error and I have not said pay it back I have said ask for the breakdown and a negative payslip
They need the breakdown in gross and the net paid etc
But we are back to the good old question 'how do people NOT know they are being over paid'? I will never understand that! You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -

Either way if they prove the OP has been overpaid and they do not give it back then all I can say is good luckWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

What? You mean to tell me you have no idea what you get paid? I could tell you if I was 1p missing in my pay (which I never was) as I used to check it every time I got paid BEFORE I got my payslip.Statute Law? Case law? Biblical authority? What are you on about? Daily mail?

Cheeky b/\stards.... i would of just ignored them, any letters you get can just be sent back to them.
ive had this problem before being 'overpaid' - well thats what they said... i just ignored them, and that was 4 years ago.
you worked for them you get paid i seriously think they could be pulling a fast one.• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C

• RBS Back up A/C

Yep, definitely get a breakdown of it and also ask for a payslip allowing for this - you paid tax and NI on that too so it should not be the full £1000 you need to repay. You should also be able to ask for time to pay it back. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I agree that you should have a good idea what your monthly pay should be, however as the OP said in their first post their wages varied each month due to over time etc making it more difficult to check without doing the calculations.0 -
This is the reason why I keep all my payslips to save any problems with an employer saying I was over paid.0
