Car Insurance: same 2 drivers, different prices!

Hi folks,
I am getting car insurance quotes for me & OH. I fill in the same details for both of us on 2 separate sets of quotes (gocompare), but for one I name myself (male) first, and for the other set my OH (female) is named first. In both cases I state my OH as the main driver.

However, I get very different prices! in fact the best price for me named first as owner & keeper was 25% (£100) less. The same broker quoted with a difference of £130!

How is this possible? The only difference is as stated above.

Noone can fathom the way they calculate individual premiums. And they aren't going to divulge.

Just go with the best deal.

Have you checked the quotes on the insurers' web sites?

It may be that the 'main driver' field isn't being handled correctly when requesting a quote from one of the insurers, and so the different order of names becomes a different main driver.

I suspect you're right dtaylor - tried a quote for OH on moneysupermarket and I got same price as best quote for "me first" from GoCompare.

Goes to show, these comparison sites can be a bit misleading!
