How do I transport a new freezer?

I need a new upright under the counter freezer and there is a good deal on at Argos just now. It is available to collect and I would prefer to do this.
However, I have a small car which means I wouldn't be able to keep it in an upright position but would manage to put it in the boot sideways.
Would this be ok to do as unsure if this would damage it. If not possible then I will just pay to have it delivered but would like to have your comments before I decide. Thanks in advance.

Google Vouchers or discount vouchers, sometimes there is a free delivey code.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You can usually fit half-size appliances into a hatchback with the boot door open.
If transporting it horizontally, remember to allow the fridge/freezer to stand upright for a few hours before switching it on.
Otherwise, you might find a man-in-van service locally. Is there anyone you know having building work done locally. You could ask their builder to bring the appliances in their van?If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Find a local man-with-a-van, or get it delivered.0

I got a fridge in my VW Up. You could always hire a van, ~£45 + petrol for one day. Make sure you have someone to help lift it. And take old towels to protect the paint work, unless it is boxed already.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Since most local white goods deliveries are around a tenner, is it really worth it? Unless it will fit in your own vehicle and you have the necessary help and equipment to load/unload it?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Install it upright and leave it for 24 hours before switching it on.
A few hours is probably enough but 24 hours errs on the safe side and ensures that the gas inside has fully settled.0 -
I'd just thought I would save money by collecting it and also to save waiting in for a delivery.
It only costs £109 in the sale so think I'll just pay the extra £20 to have it delivered and save any hassles.
Thanks for all your replies.0 -

You have no way of knowing whether the delivery company would have kept it upright at all times.
So whether you collect or have it delivered it is advisable to leave it standing upright for 24 hours before switching on.604!0
