Quote for front gates

Living at a block of 3 houses and the neighbours have got some quotes for 5 foot metal gates at the end of the drive, we've been told it's £1,000 each.
Is this a good price? Seems a bit much to me

at 3 grand they are cheap. for golden gates!
between 100 - 500 quid on ebay and say approx 400 quid to fit.Get some gorm.0 -
Really depends on what type of gate they are...are they electric...is an intercom fitted included in that...all sorts.
Consider getting your own quotes if you are unsure, costs nothing to do that.0 -
There is so much variation its unreal to be honest.
You can get cheap off the shelf ones, but next to a pair of nice heavy bespoke ones you will imediately see the difference in quality.
It also depends on the finish, something galvanised and powder coated will last a long time before it need painting. But a cheap set will probably be wet sprayed, and need painting in a year or two.
If they are bespoke, your probably being charged £30+p/h plus finishing, plus materials, plus installation....
£3000, personally id want some very nice ones, with auto openers....
Where abouts are you?0 -
Thought it was a bit much, think they're pretty standard ones but will ask to have a look at the quote and see exactly what we're being quoted for.
Based in Manchester if that helps...2p off is still 2p off!0 -
Had a brochure from these people a couple of times - they seem to ALWAYS have specail deals (bit like some DIY stores & their sales!!)

Never used them, but think they have been suggested by other Moneysavers, in the past, too!

Hi can anyone help I need to buy a cheap front gate as some kind indiviual is constanly using my front garden as a toilet for their dog. I object to having to clean up dog s... every day as I have planter fasciitis (very painful inflamation of the bottom of the foot which is getting worse I am now having to walk with a stick and I don't have a dog. I live in a victorian terrace house (wider gate entrance than regular houses) in NW London. Width 42 inches and the walls on either side are 37 inches and 30inches respectively. I have been to wickes but they do a 3 foot 3inch gate which is 3 inches too short in width and it is not high enough either (I don't think, noone in my street has a gate as small as the one in wickes . I do not know anything about buying a gate luckily my neighbour's son-in-law will fit it for free for me. Any one that can advise what to buy, height etc, where from I would greatly appreciated it.0
