I believe they told me an estimate price on the phone which may have been about £150, but said the confirmed amount would be sent in the post.
Sounds like they made a mistake and once corrected, it was back in line with what you originally expected.

I think you would be doing well to get them to stand by the £91.98 but a gesture for the inconvenience would be expected.

I'm ringing them on Monday to make a formal complaint. If they don't agree to stick to the £91.98 that was confirmed and I was under the impression I would be paying then I will threaten them with the FOS.

You don't 'threaten'. Simply go through the complaints process. They will point out anyway that you are entitled to take it to the Ombudsman if you're not happy with the outcome.

Unfortunately. You're in no position of strength. You agreed to pay the stated amount via a monthly DD and for one reason or another this did not take place. The monthly payments are only a side show - your interest is only in the calculated amount for your policy at each change. If they make an error, they are permitted to rectify it, and ensure you are not disadvantaged - they appear to be doing this.

Complaining should not be seen as an alternative to paying as if you do, the policy is cancelled and you would ave to declare this when you seek new cover.

I spoke to Insure Your Motor this morning and they are not prepared to budge even with the threat of FOS, so I have just lodged a complaint with the FOS.

    Hopefully it gets sorted soon.

Have you actually exhausted their formal complaints process yet?

I rang up the FOS and they have said the error in administration (miscalculation) may lie with Haven who are the actual insurance provider, as Insure Your Motor are just the broker.

They have told me they will write to Haven with an official complaint and that they have up to 8 weeks to provide a response.

As soon as I hear back from Haven with a response to the complaint then I can get back in touch with the FOS with my reference number and if I don't hear from them within 8 weeks then I can contact them to let them know that they have not responded.

They seem to agree that if they made a miscalculation on their part and I have been told its £91.98 and been paying that for 2 months and thats what I have been expecting to pay then they should not expect me to find an additional £65 each month.

This may take a little longer to settle because of it going through the FOS (up to 8 weeks), but at least I know the right decision will now be made.

    Fingers crossed.

Haven have 8 weeks to respond. The FOS can take a lot longer to resolve.

Sure at least it will get settled and it looks like I will be able to continue at £91.98 and even if I have to pay £155.67 for the meantime until it is settled, I will likely get the difference back.
