Fixed Rate Savings Accounts

I've started to look into fixed Rate Savings

I know there are Instant Access accounts about that pay over 6% if you look around ... but generally there are some really high Fixed Rates that pay higher ..

I know you have to commit not to touch the cash for an amount of time ... but I don't want Instant Access to the whole of my wedge.

Recently i've seen Ango Irish Bank are offering 6.45% for 1 year ... not sure quite hopw it works but they have a 2 year that offers 6.35% as well (would have thought it should be higher but what do i know). As far as i'm aware there's no upper limit (or not that affects me).

I've seen fixes that are around for less than a year ... but generally less than
the 6.45%

Anyone else think these represent good value .....

Been a couple of years since fixed rates were over 6% so a good deal... for the moment. Likely to be better ones later in the year in theory, but given the BoE track record, no guarantees.

I've been sticking a few quid in 1-5 year fixes over 6% - will let you know in 2012 whether it was a good move or not...

Just a thought, but have you filled your cash ISA this year? 6.45% is "only" 5.16% after standard-rate tax and you can certainly do better than that (NS&I cash ISA is currently 6.05% (no tax to pay).

    Derbyshire fixed rate bond, until 31/07/08. w.e.f. 07/06/07 @ 6.45%

From Moneyfacts, although the link on Moneyfacts page gives an error, probably because today is only 06/06/07

if u do want to fix for a year 6.45 is currently top rate, derbyshire doing same 6.45% gross fixed for a year i believe ( catching up with best reg savers fixed 1 year terms are now)

difficult because u havent said how much your investment is

Look to the bond market. The 10 yr US treasury bond jumped and rose above 5% last week and government bond yields globally surged.

Inflation's a problem, bond markets have woken up and commentators are saying bank rate to 6% by the summer.
