Right first the details, I normally access emails via my PC.
I bought a Nexus 7 tablet late last year and had to set up a google account to access the Google Play store. This also set up a Gmail account on my tablet.
I was not too bothered about that as I had access to both PC and tablet.
Now the problem. My OH has just bought an Android smartphone and to enable her to access Google play store, rather than setting up an account for her I logged in using my account.
In retrospect that was a silly thing to do as it set up my Gmail account on her phone. So Gmails can go to either my tablet or her phone.
Is there a way of deleting either the account or the Gmail app. When I try to delete the app all it will let me do is delete all of the updates not the app itself.
Thanks

Changing your password via your PC is a quick solution, then enter new password on your PC and tablet. OH's phone won't access Gmail, because it needs you to enter new password.
OH's phone is new, so you could always reset it and start from scratch. What type of Android phone is it and maybe then you will receive another fix?0 -
I have a nexus and you can disble gmail sync in the settings.
Theres also an option to disable Gmail.0 -
If your OH is not going to use Gmail you can disable the App. From the Application manager go all apps and select disable. You may have to uninstall updates before the option to disable the app is available.
As the phone is new it might be best to reset the phone and set up a new gmail account up for her.

But at some time your OH is going to want to use Google play. It makes much more sense for her to set up her own Gmail account to use with Google play rather than trying to delete the Gmail app on her phone - I would have thought that the simplest way (as long as she doesn't have stuff on the phone she doesn't want to lose) is for her to set up a Gmail account beforehand, and then do a factory reset on the phone and set it up with her new details.0

Best solution is simply reset and start again.0

Which is what i recommended in the first post following OP's question, but he needs to get his hands on the phone to reset it.
Whilst his other half is reading all those emails that he doesn't  want to share, OP needs to change his Gmail password to block her access.0 -
Thanks for the replys especially bealimar who was the first to suggest a factory reset, I think that is the way to go.
It was silly of me to use my ID in the first place.0
