Credit Card Charged Twice Whilst Abroad

Hi Folks!

Whilst on holiday in Thailand I used my Post Office credit card to pay for things and have received my statement and I have been charged twice from one retailer for exactly the same amount.

I rang the Post Office who first told me to take it up with the retailer, when I said this was impossible that I disputed the charge and wanted it treated as fraudulent they put me on hold, came back and said send a copy of my receipt and dispute letter to their HQ in Dublin.

I am surprised I have to write in to begin the dispute process but can understand them wanting to see my receipt.

Any advice at all on what I should put in the letter in order to cover all bases as I don't want them to use a technicality to not investigate or worse not refund the charge.

Thanks in advance!

Layla

    Just write the truth.
That said, I don't understand why they need the receipt as if there were two transactions there would be two receipts and one receipt doesn't prove anything. And it's up to the seller to prove that you did authorise the transaction, not to you to prove that you didn't.

Also, IIRC, they have to refund an authorised transaction almost instantly, but then can take time to investigate it and, possibly, debit the money back if they decide against you.
