anyone know where you can get boxes for plates?

I'm always looking out for boxes for single dinner plates, I want them around 12" x 12" x about 4" (deeper than a pizza box). I can find ones on ebay that will hold 2 plates, these are around 6"or 7" deep so that's a lot of void to fill for one plate and it means extra expense on either the polychips or extra postage cost because of the weight of balled up newspaper. Anyone know of any that are the correct depth?

Go and ask at a plate shop. When I worked for Wedgwood, we didn't keep the boxes and just threw them out.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Would pizza boxes do the trick?
Ignore that missed the bit about pizza boxes being too shallow.
How about brake disc boxes? The money, Dave...0 -

Hi AT
I sell 78's and send them in these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/50-EASY-FOLD-MAILING-BOXES-305-x-305-x-70mm-EF6_W0QQitemZ200113727597QQihZ010QQcategoryZ19278QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
They are only 3" deep so that may not be enough for you, but you could email the seller and ask if they do 12x12x4's.

Thanks for the replies,
Juno, my local china shop sells on the web too so they hang on to every box that they can, they get lovely boxes and free padding with them, I'm so envious!
Brake disc boxes? not sure where to get hold of them new, if I was to ask at a garage I'm sure that they'd be giving them to me with oily fingerprints all over them, bless'em but thank you for the lateral thinking
FFM, they look promising.
In the past I've had boxes made to my specifications but they were well over £1 each, hence the search for another source. I use giant bubblewrap and lots of it, I wonder sometimes if I OVER pack, I'm just obssesed with making sure that things don't break. If a plate did break in the post not a disaster if it's a modern plate because I can send the buyer a new one but if it's 100 years old and irreplaceable then I'd be as heartbroken as the buyer so I spend around £90 on bubblewrap per month!!!!
This is a long way of saying that if there's enough room in the box for at least a couple of layers of giant bubble (I'd use 4 layers usually but if the box is strong I might get away with just 2 layers) and the box is tough enough for airmail then you've found me the perfect box. I'll email him and ask if he has deeper ones or maybe he'll let me buy one and test it out by sending a plate to myself and see how the box looks when it arrives.0 -
I also spend lots of money on packaging materials. Bubble wrap is so expensive and it really grieves me when I see it being thrown out. I'm getting quite concerned about myself (as are my friends) when I go into raptures about finding boxes/bubble wrap/tissue etc for free!!
Back to your plate boxes, this would probably be time consuming but couldn't you make your own boxes from cut down cardboard boxes? I often do that by using a sharp knife <<looks at plasters on fingers>> to score the cardboard and then fold into required shape.0 -

From the sound of it, may be best off buying unprinted pizza boxes.
Or what about the foam cushioned boxes, cost a lot more i know. But then you wouldnt have to buy all that bubble wrap.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
