I would expect the recovery CD is designed to be booted from and then a drive format occurs. Can you give an example of the files needed?0

now its just crashing half way through restore and rebooting. they are registry files..for example windows\system32\shell32.dll, windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.toolsvisualcc++runtime-libraries659564144ccfidf_6.0.0.0_x-ww_ff9986d7\atl.dll etc there are about 30 of these all different. the computer is just crashing and restarting, whether booted from cd or during the recovery process..help!Fr. When you boot from the CD what happens? Do you get the "press any key to boot from CD" screen? If so what do you do next? If not, check your bios settings to make sure CDROM is first in the boot up list.0

it does boot from cd. like i said it gets half way through the restore then crashes, bsod, reboots by itself. it is set to boot first. Can't do anything without an os disk, i've given up, pc world can sort it out (AGAIN) they have already replaced the restore dvd and the hard drive, they'l just have to give him an os disk. over a month with no computer when its only 2 months old is out of order. it wasn't anything my dad did, it just started crashing and rebooting over and over.Fr. If I were you I'd take the PC back to PC World, and ask for a full refund. The PC you have been supplied is "not fit for the purpose". You can then buy a new one either from PC World or somewhere else.
They will probably tell you that you only have a few days to return the PC if you didn't want it, but I believe the Merchantability of Goods Act states that goods must be fit for the purpose and should last for a "reasonable" amount of time. Two months is NOT a reasonable amount of time, and you are within your rights to get a refund.0 -
Those symptoms are indicative of flaky Ram (memory)
I can't believe PC World didn't try them the first time. The install of XP is well known to uncover RAM problems.
Is it always the same file it fails on, or a random file(s)?
I would defnitely try the memory first, but like has been said, It is really PC Worlds problem.0 -

Theres a long post on this subject here:

Basically, they will refuse stating they only have a 28 day policy to return it...... but they may agree after much shouting and hassle.0 -
he took it in, 7 days for repair...Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0
