If Milton is just watered down bleach, and it is safe enough for baby feeding equipment, surely a slug of bleach in the pool is safe enough?

I reckon replacing the water will actually be cheaper than tablets. Check your unit price on your water company's website (or a bill) and do 1.8x3xheight of water to work out how much water you'd use in cubic metres.

I'd use the old pool water to water the plants and lawn (could top up your water butt too if you can't use it all in one go).

I am not on a water meter but I am very careful/responsible with water. We share baths, turn taps off when brushing teeth etc.

I think that I will just empty and refill the pool when needed. Probably only need to do it a couple of times anyway as summer generally doesn't last long.... I am hoping that will be famous last words ;)

When we had a pool with a filter we had a proper chemical kit to mix and match the levels to create a good PH balance and it kept the water crystal clear. The kit was around £20 and lasted years.

We brought a "spa" pool a few years back that didn't have a pump so I brought a couple of sachets of pool "cleaning" liquid that you add once a week and it kept it safe and clear....around £1.80 a sachet via fleabay. Worked well.

haha I just did a search for keeping paddling pools clean and found this, completely forgetting I had posted on here! Thought it was worth bumping as it is that time of year again.

As it happens, the children used the paddling pool ONCE last year grrrrrr.

This year, I am going to use water purification tablets, used for making water drinkable, and hope for the best :D

I thought I would bump this up again as it is coming to the time of year again, please if you buy a pool index/bestway no matter what size make sure it comes with a pump. You do need a pump to keep the water clean, or you will have to keep dumping out the water every few weeks as the days get hotter and the pool is in more use it will go cloudy and even greener more quickly due with suntan lotion grass dirt ect.. even if you use chemicals and the PH, TA and free chlorine and Chlorine is all in range, if you don't filter it all the crap goes to the bottom of the pool so once you touch it will be like a cloud of dust and gets stirred up in the water.. The best way to be able to keep pool water till the end of summer is a pump.. The chlorine it does kill the bacteria but you still need to get it out of the pool, it wont magically disappear.. I also got a Bestway Deluxe Maintenance Kit that just cleans the bottom of the pool which attaches to the pump and just back wash it if its been in use a lot and have had a lot of kids in it.....
