Credit Card/Airline offers

We're booking a pair of return flights to NZ, and will probably pay for them on CC.

I was wondering if there were any CC's which were good schemes or offer deals with flights. We're probably going to be flying with Singapore Airlines.

If not, I'll stick it on my regular Barclaycard.

Thanks!

Nothing that will benefit you specifically (Star Alliance aren't so well covered by UK cards). If you're bothered about spreading the cost then just a new 0% spending card. Otherwise, take your pick from any reward/cashback card.

Best on the market just now (if you like mostly travel rewards) in my opinion are:

Amex Gold - 20,000 MR points bonus for £2k spend in first three months. Use points for hotel/flights/vouchers (no fee in first year - bargain!).

Amex SPG - 20,000 Starwoods points for £1k spend in first three months. Use points for hotels or transfer to airline miles. (offer ends 29 July so would have to be quick - £75 annual fee but refunded pro-rata if cancelled).

Barclaycard Hilton - Free night in any hilton property worldwide for £750 spend in first three months. (no fee - not sure you can get this since you already have a BC).

Amex Platinum Cashback (will get you 5% cashback on first £2k cost of your flights - £25 annual fee)

These cards are probably only worth it if you intend to pay off the balance fairly quickly - otherwise get a 0% spending card. I can refer you for any of the Amex cards mentioned - we both get some extra Cashback/MR points/SPG points.

Another benefit I think with certain American Express cards are that if you buy your tickets with them (possibly direct with the airline), they give free travel insurance, they be aware you may be charged extra if you pay by American Express (though the insurance will negate this).

I believe the only card to offer this is the Platinum Charge Card which comes with a £450 annual fee! On the Gold card you get travel accident insurance on transport purchased with the card and also flight delay/inconvenience insurance if your luggage is lost/delayed.

Shouldn't be charged more with an Amex than any other credit card.

    That's really helpful, thanks!

For clarity, you can. It's not a Barclaycard per se, it's a Barclays affiliate card - you can have these on top of any Barclaycards you hold (if they'll issue it of course).

Existing cards might influence the limit they give - they only gave me £1500 on the Hilton (which is fine, I only needed £750 for the free night :D), but I already had a £7k limit on a Barclaycard (no idea if this is coincidence or not though).
