Returning unopened alcohol, lost receipt!

Without going into detail bought some Whiskey as a gift and it now transpires alcohol is no longer a suitable present. I'm getting something else.
I don't drink Whiskey and none of my other friends or family are fans, do tesco accept returns of unopened, sealed alcohol? Even worse I lost the receipt and paid cash... I'd be more than happy to accept a gift card but have doubts as to whether they'd accept alcohol refunds full stop let alone without a receipt.
Anyone know what the position is on this? If not I'll suck up the loss and donate to a charity raffle or similar.
Many thanks.

Unless you can prove you bought it from Tesco, can't see you getting a refund.0

I didn't think so, thinking about it when I worked at Asda a few years back Alcohol was often stolen to be returned so was viewed suspiciously.
My friends work is doing a charity day soon so I shall donate, at least money will go to a good cause so it's not a total loss.
Thanks for your help.£10781.62 by 23/04/2014 :rudolf:

When you made the purchase, did you by any chance use a Tesco Clubcard?
If so, they will be able to use this to trace when the sale was made.0 -

I would say unlikely.
they maybe be able to get the receipt if you pay via debit/credit card thou. (depending on how long ago it was bought)
any more than 7 days ago they may not bother
without a receipt thou, the most you will get would be an exchange or cash card (to be spent in store)
they wont give a full refund.
Afterall, you could have bought it at a special offer then take it back later to get more money than you paid. Or bought it from another store cheaper0 -
All you can do is ask...
I think your chances of success would be higher if you were to ask in writing rather than just turn up. Let them know the date and if possible the time of the purchase and the precise brand: in principle they could check these details (they won't bother) so you being precise would make it clear you are not a shop-lifer trying to get cash. And of course be polite: they are not under any obligation to do anything, but may choose to be helpful for the sake of goodwill.
If I were buying whisky, I would always use both a credit card and clubcard for the sake of the points and cashback.0
