Hello. I was due or pick up my new "used" car this Saturday. I had the insurance in place ready and the dealer had a copy of my insurance to tax the car. Te car probably won't be ready until Monday now. The question is can the dealer still use my certificate to tax the car on Monday even though the date is wrong or does i have get a new certificate ? I know I will have to tell my insurers that I will be driving my old vehicle for a few more days so I am covered but I wondered what will happen to the road tax on my new car?

The dealer has a valid cover note so he can tax the car with it. Explain to your insurer you need an extension of the old policy and that the new cover will not be used till Monday and tell the time of day to changeYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! When you say "the date is wrong" - is the insurance going to expire by Monday? If it's a full years' insurance, then it will be valid when the tax is bought, which is all that matters. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Whether they tax it today or Monday your losing over 2 weeks of it.
It will expire the end of June next year assuming a 12 month one. 6 month one will end 31st December. If you had waited 12 days then it will be Januaury/July instead.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

It's an ex motability car. Will it need to be taxed at the dvla to change the class from disabled?0

I think you mean "Vehicle Excise Duty".
Nobody pays Road Tax.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

YEs, DVLA will have to be informed that it is no longer a Motability vehicle, so the tax class can be changed and the correct duty paid.0

I'm not sure the dealer will be able to get tax if the class is changing. I think you will have to take a trip to the local vehicle tax office to get the class changed and get your tax as post offices can't do it.0

He is supposed to call today. Will find out. Thanks for the replies.0

The car is delayed but he has sorted out the v5. Not sure how if the car isn't going to be taxed until next Saturday. Lets hope there is still only one owner on it.0
