Memorial Stone insurance

(Hope this one isn't covered anywhere else: I did look!)

Shortly after my mother died, a renewal notice arrived for Memorial Stone insurance she'd been paying for my father's headstone. At the time, the stone was with the stonemason, so it wasn't a pressing matter; and for various reasons it was some time before my mother's name was added and the stone returned to the cemetary.

I came across the renewal notice again just now, and have no idea whether this kind of insurance is A Good Idea/necessary/sound or not…

I've looked at the insurer my mother used, whose website lists several payouts they've made for storm damage, vandalism &c - but it would, wouldn't it! Advice appreciated.

I don't know anyone who has this type of insurance, however my extended family are not big on cemetery visiting anyway.

How much are they asking? If just a relatively small amount, and it would greatly upset you if anything did happen then perhaps it is worth it to you at the moment.

Otherwise my feeling is that they are carved stone and would much really happen that you couldn't deal with at the time. I like a weathered look but it would depend if you had photos/framey bits etc that would look awful if damaged.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I did think of getting insurance a few years ago incase something did happen to a relatives grave.
I forgot about it in the end and there has never been any problem witht he grave.

Like any insurance it is a gamble really

It's reassuring to know that people will still be trying to rip me (or my estate) off, long after I'm dead...
