Is this possible? Gas engineers please :-)

My room thermostat is in the open plan lounge/diner and I'm having a wood burner fitted soon. This means that the room will be warm enough for the heating not to kick in although I would still want the bedrooms heated. Could I have a remote thermostat unit fitted to my 5 year old Baxi so that the thermostat could sit in the bedroom? If not is there another option?

Is the thermostat screwed to the wall and battery powered? If so you can simply move it to another room yourself.

It's not a wireless/radio one as far as I know, it's very basic

You don't seem silly at all, if you can find a serial number on it a google should tell you whether or not it is a wired model without the hassle of getting someone in.

I've checked and it is wired in. Can I convert to a wireless given that the boiler is at least 5 years old?

A wireless thermostat consists of two parts - the thermostat unit itself which is battery powered and a receiver unit which is mains powered.

Depending on the configuration of your system it may be possible to replace the existing thermostat with the receiver unit just by taking the old one off and connecting the receiver in it's place.

If that can't be done (it depends on how the existing thermostat has been wired in) then it's easy to install the receiver next to the boiler or programmer.

It's not complicated and an electrician or competent DIYer should be able to sort it out for you

I've just had British Gas install their remote heating control to my Baxi which is almost 9 years old.

A bit attached to the boiler, wireless thermostat in the hall and a hub attached to my broadband router. Control the heating from my smartphone now (or a web browser anywhere).

What you want is a wireless remote thermostat/programmer that looks like a big TV remote control.

Usually there is a wall pocket that you screw into the wall, and you leave it there normally, but can take it into the room you want to control. At the boiler, there is a module that the engineer will wire into boiler. There are brand specific and general purpose ones.

This one is only for Glowworm boilers:

    But it's SO COOL......

Do you mind saying how much that cost?
