Can I request an assessment for PIP for my son?

I read your post as saying only people with indefinite awards won't be transferred until 2015, I read dwp as saying only people who report a change or have an award that ends will be transferred before. My award ends 2017. I didn't expect to be moved until 2015

I completely agree with you, I wish our new council did too lol. We are going to contact our old GP as we haven't had a chance to change doctors yet and ask for proof from them that he isn't independent, I didn't think of contacting the SENCO at the college but will try although I think they've finished for the summer now.

Thanks to all who have posted (sorry I don't know how to multiquote), it sounds like we can't apply for PIP as my son has an indefinite award so it could be 2017 before he is transferred, which is ridiculous (IMO) as he qualifies for enhanced mobility under PIP but not DLA.

Hi - re student support.

I have a question.

Is this your closest FE college that offers the IL course, or the one you want him to go to? The appeal route is different.

The college cannot overturn the decision of the LA, but there are many tweaks and challenges with good success rates.

Biggest ally is social services and your disability service.

I can advise once I know if closest or not if required. Meanwhile, student support is mandated open during the holidays, (its their busiest time) so feel free to ring. Early am has less queues as college students don't rise before 10 am.

You can also discuss in class support, lunch arrangements, learning mentors or LSA support etc.

Thanks for your reply. It is the closest college to us that offers the IL course but I think you may be right, as it comes under a different council, the college that comes under our council is over 10 miles away whereas the one he has been accepted into is less than 5 miles away. He doesn't travel well lol.

We haven't had a chance to contact SS here yet as we've only been here 3 weeks but will do so ASAP, although as he was 18 in December our previous SS support basically stopped. Will definitely see what they say though.

I will also contact the college about this as early as possible, my college student doesn't usually keep to normal student waking hours which is why I'm up now :rotfl:
