7" tablet - anything cheap, cheerful and ACCEPTABLE around?

My wife has just bought herself a 10" Galaxy, mainly on eyesight grounds.

I am only interested in internet surfing and emailing. No requirement for films, games etc.

Is there anything available by way of a smaller tablet which does the job well and without frills?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Well, that seems unanimous. Can I ask why? It hardly seems to be a front runner on cost grounds.

It's probably the front runner on value grounds, you'd struggle to find a tablet with equal power for less, and it's good enough for most tasks you'd expect a tablet to perform.

It also has excellent support - being a Nexus device it runs stock Android and gets plenty of updates from Google. There's also plenty of information out their on the web because it's a popular tablet. Plus, if you buy from the Google Play store, they have excellent customer support, I had an issue after about 6 months of owning mine (one of the speakers became distorted), one phone call to their support line and I had a replacement the next day.

Indeed, I had a problem with my first Nexus and a very nice man in Utah arranged a next day replacement.

Looks like there's a new Nexus 7.2 out soon, a Google Android event being held on 24 July in San Francisco.

Pricing has been leaked too, see here.

There may be some bargains around on the old nexus 7 in the next few weeks. It is a very capable tablet.

Go for a refurb? - eg. This one from Tesco http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-GOOGLE-NEXUS-7-TEGRA-1-2GHz-16GB-HDD-7-HD-SCREEN-ANDROID-TABLET-COMPUTER-/400525324066?clk_rvr_id=501874096691

You can get some very nice 7" tablets for around the £60 mark if you are careful and shop around... . .

Try the Acer Iconia B1, works a treat for surfing and emailing. Check out HUKD, there have been a number of good deals on it lately.
