Does anyone know why payments through a Mastercard credit card may not result in a SecureCode entry?
I thought all transactions online above a certain value automatically invoked this.

Nope, it just depends on whether the retailer has signed up to SecureCode, Verified by Visa or Amex SafeKey or not.0 -
The more information that a retailer asks for, the more likely you are not to buy. You may notice that Amazon doesn't even ask for the 3 digits on the back of your card. Sometimes it makes sense for the business to turn the security off, take the liability for fraud themselves, if that means that profit is increased.0

Equally - some retailers will invoke it - but the bank will decide not to query.
Prime example for me is the National Lottery. When I fund my account there - the first time it asked me for the password. The next time - the securecode screen appeared, spins for a minute, and then moves on automatically.
So the bank (not the lottery) has decided the risk is low for me for this transaction and thus don't ask for it.0
