Second Hand Cars

Hi
I wonder if someone could guide me please.
Does this "Sale of Good" act also apply to 2nd hand cars?
Basically I bought a used car and there is a defect with the car which I have requested to the dealer to repair and it's looking as if I will have to pay for it. This defect is apparently not covered under the warranty that I have
I bought the car less than 2 weeks ago
Thanks

Yes it does.
But the price and description is also a factor. So how old is it and what is the mileague? If you for example bought it brand new and down the road the clutch went through no fault of yours then they would be liable for the faulty component. If though you bought a 90k mile clock and the clutch went, assuming service history doesn't show it was replaced recently or something, its likely down to wear and tear and not their responsibility0 -
It depends. There is no SOGA cover if a private sale (eg the seller was a private individual).
If a trader, then you have limited recourse, and as you don't mention what the defect is, it is difficult to know what the expectation is.0 -
Could you be a little more specific?
What did the advert say? What is the defect?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks for the quick response
The car is 3 years old and has apparently gone through a120 point check.
The mileage is 50 k
The defect is the plastic pipes that enable the washer windscreen jets to work have cracked and that is why the washer jets are not dispensing any liquid.
I bought the car from an official dealer0 -
Wow, that's not good on a 3 year old car!0

you can replace thos plastic pipe with similar ones from fish tanks for about 50p , just thought id let you know incase you have to replace it yourself , i had a similar problem except mine was a bit worse i discovered a car i had bout for 8 grand had had a rear ender lost out on a few grand as i didnt discover it until about 7 months into owning the car , nowadays im extra careful to keep my eyes open when buying cars , hope you get it sorted soon mate#1799 sealed moneypot challenge- target £500 s/f £378

120 point check = some guy looked at the outside of car, and then ticked 120 boxes. Everyone knows 'point checks' and PDI (Pre delivery inspections) are the biggest load of bol*ox ever!!!!!
If I were you, I would seek advice from an MOT test station and ask if the MOT would fail if your unable to clear your windowscreen...
If that's the case, go back to the dealer and tell them your findings....
Hard for me to say what I would do as I aint in your position, but I think I would go nuts and pull stupid stunts like block-cading the front doors, putting up signs to say they are a dodgy dealer (anything that's not considered a crime!!)0
