I've had a few quotes for 6ft closeboard fencing and 2 6ft closeboard side gates and would like to know which sounds reasonable please?
The first one is very detailed, while the rest vary from brief to very brief!
I make the fencing 32m in total, but the quotes vary a little from that (I guess because each used their own unique way of measuring the distance!)
Quote 1:
The timber posts and gravel boards are treated to class 4 hazard
31m of closeboard fencing at 1.8m –
100mm x 125mm posts concreted 600mm in the existing ground
100mm feather edge boarding fixed with galvanised 50mm nails
75mm Arris rails fixed with 90mm galvanised nails
25mm x 150mm Gravel board fixed with 75mm galvanised nails
Capping and counter rail on the top
Includes removal of posts, panels and base bricks
To include repair work and reattaching neighbouring fences.
To include gravel to fill any voids on removal of the bricks to make good
£1760
Made to measure gates –
Wall plate fixed to the house wall for hinging.
50mm x100mm framework.
100mm feather edge.
Capping.
Black fittings – Hinges, ring latch and padbolt.
£100
100mm x100mm post sunk in 600mm of concrete.
Wall plate fixed to the house wall for hinging.
50mm x100mm framework.
100mm feather edge.
Capping.
Black fittings – Hinges, ring latch and padbolt.
£130
3 yr workmanship guarantee, 15 yr timber guarantee and 1 yr manufactures guarantee for each other item supplied and installed. A 10% deposit is required.
Quote 2:
6ft close board. Timber posts £1485 + vat. Concrete posts £1650 + vat. Gates will be £180 + vat each.
Quote 3:
To take down and remove the old fence and install 1.8 meter high close board on concrete posts and concrete gravel boards. £1815 + VAT If you would rater timber gravel boards reduce the close board quote by £100 Gates supply and fix each £245 + VAT
Quote 4:
To supply and erect, 34 mtrs of 6ft high close board fencing fixed to 8'x4'x4' (I'm going to assume he means 4"!) timber posts, concreted 2ft into the ground complete with a close board gate to match TOTAL PRICE £1700 (he seems to be missing a gate for some reason)
Please note a deposit shall be required the sum of £900. And the remaining balance to be paid on completion of the work.
Quote 5:
108' of 6' high closeboard fencing £1800
6' x 30" closeboard gate, wall plate and 8' gate post £300
6' x 26" closeboard gate, wall plate and 8' gate post £300
Any thoughts, please?
The £900 deposit screams alarm bells, the 10% sounds fine, others don't even mention a deposit - only one mentions guarantees.
Thanks
